FANTASTIC FOUR (2005) Dir: Tim Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ A fun comic book adventure with a likeable core cast, that while successful never truly captured the hearts of cinema going audiences in the way that the MCU or Spidey flicks did.  Quirky yet financially stretched science type Reed Richards (Ioun Gruffudd) and his ever dependable rock-solid long time pal Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) head into space with hot headed pilot Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) and Reed’s done with being ignored ex Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) to investigate a space storm, accompanied by financier (and egotistical loon) Dr Doom (the recently departed Julian McMahon).  Exposure to the storm give our quartet remarkable powers, and the world comes to embrace them as The Fantastic Four. We’ll accept for Dr Doom, he just wants all the powers for himself.  There is much fun to be had here. Bright comic colours, action that showcases superheroic rescue sequences and not just fights (but we get those too), a Stan Lee cameo that in and of itself is an Easter egg throw back to FF lore, a fun script from Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost that nails the personality of the core four, in particular the by-play with Thing and Torch. Oh and Jessica Alba’s invisibility malfunction on the bridge.  It does have a timeless element, whilst also being of its time, particularly in the moment where we cut to a shot of Johnny Storm soundtracked by ‘On Fire’ by Lloyd Banks  G-g-g-g Unit My ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ review of Fantastic Four on Letterboxd https:u002Fu002Fboxd.itu002FaoJd2l
